But in general it's about functionality, it's about the fact that pret-a-porter clothes can be made after or turned into templates for major clothing factories, in other words they can be turned into a series. As for the haute couture ones, they are made on manequins, because they don't have a pattern that can be used, they invent new shapes and involve a lot of manufacturing, with more expensive fabrics and materials, and a lot more attention to details.
